PETALING JAYA: The Johor health department has not detected any Covid-19 clusters linked to the state elections held on March 12.

State health director Dr Aman Rabu believed that this was due to the SOPs set by the health ministry and Election Commission (EC), where Covid-19 patients were not allowed to vote.

“Those in the person under investigation (PUI) and person under surveillance (PUS) groups were only allowed to vote if they had written permission from their district health office,” he told Utusan Malaysia.

The health department previously said it did not expect any Covid-19 clusters to occur due to the state polls.

Voters had been worried about the high prevalence of Covid-19 cases in the state and the country, which led to many not casting their ballots.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,441 new Covid-19 cases were detected yesterday in Johor – with 1,403 being local cases – apart from 18 deaths.

The number of cases is declining compared with 2,298 new positive cases recorded on the day of the elections.-FMT
