Man feared drowned after falling off Penang second bridge

BATU MAUNG: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has activated a search and rescue operation (SAR) for a man who fell off the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge, here, this morning.

MMEA received a call from the bridge traffic control centre that the 20-year-old victim had fallen at Km12.6 of the bridge, heading towards Batu Maung, about 2.40am.

MMEA Penang director Captain Maritime Abd Razak Mohamed said the SAR was activated by mobilising boat KILAT 26 to the location in search of the victim.

“The SAR is also joined by the Fire and Rescue Department and the marine police in Batu Uban.

“The victim, believed to be from Nibong Tebal, had left behind a motorcycle and other personal belongings,” he said.

As of now, the SAR is still in progress.-NST
