KUALA LUMPUR: The upcoming 2022 Budget will address all immediate fiscal issues with great urgency, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri said.
The national budget for next year will be tabled by Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz on October 29.
Ismail Sabri said this year, for the first time, the government had released a pre-budget statement and distributed five public consultation papers on a variety of structural reform issues.
“Underlying all these policies defined by the government, the National Recovery Council will play an active role in restoring our nation’s economic health and prosperity.
“We will take a broad and inclusive societal approach for the greater good of Malaysia, drawing up a strategy and its various tactics that will take us out of the pandemic into a safe and sustainable plan in living with an endemic Covid-19 scenario.
“I have outlined various strategies and plans which we are actively implementing. It is through the various policies and initiatives I have outlined, that we choose to actively define our future,” he said during his opening address at Khazanah Megatrends Forum 2021 (KMF2021) today.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) would address the development disparity between states and the income gaps between socioeconomic groups.
He said the government would uphold the principle of “Leaving No One Behind” in its quest to become a fully developed nation – a nation that will benefit all Malaysians.
“The 12MP is anchored on three key themes, focusing on resetting the economy, strengthening security, well-being and inclusivity, and advancing sustainability. The game changers introduced under the themes and policy enablers are in parallel with the 2030 agenda for sustainable development.
“It is within this context that the plan strives to bring about sustainable economic recovery, as well as to provide better social protection to vulnerable segments of society in ensuring Malaysians achieved higher standards of living,” he added.
The three-day’s forum is themed “The Invention of Tomorrow: Crafting Our New Collective Narrative”.
In upholding KMF traditions, panel discussions continue to be organised along four core sessions: how various markets globally are affected, what the theme means to firms, and society at large, and what are the imperatives of leadership and people.
Speakers include Khazanah Nasional Bhd managing director Datuk Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir, Khazanah research head Nicholas Khaw, CIMB Group group economic and markets regional heal Nadia Jalil and Petroliam Nasional Bhd president and group chief executive officer Tengku Muhammad Taufik.-NST
