The union said online learning had affected the mental health of university students.

The two students who died recently were with Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM). One of them is believed to have died because of stress following the need to undergo online learning, and from the workload to complete assignments and prepping for final examinations.

The students’ union said in a statement today that the mental health of university students must not be overlooked, especially by the higher education ministry and universities.

In the letter, the union also listed several demands to ensure that the well-being of students is taken seriously.

Among others, it urged universities to reduce student workload and extend assignments’ deadlines.

The union also urged the ministry and student unions to be more proactive on mental health and the safety of students.-FMT
