PETALING JAYA: A total of 9.1 million domestic and non-domestic Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) account holders will benefit from the electricity bill discount under the “Pakej Perlindungan Rakyat dan Pemulihan Ekonomi” (Pemulih).
A discount of between 5% and 40% will be enjoyed by 7.4 million domestic account holders while 1.6 million small and medium enterprise (SME) account holders will receive a 5% discount under the specific low-voltage commercial, industrial and agricultural tariff categories, TNB said in a statement on Thursday (July1).
The Pemulih electricity discount will be included for the electricity usage from July 1 until Sept 30 for both domestic and SME categories.
Six business sectors that were involved in the previous Pemerkasa Plus initiative will continue to receive a 10% discount until Dec 31 under the Pemulih initiative.
The business sectors are hotel operators, travel and tour agencies, shopping centres, convention centres, theme parks and local airlines companies.
Account holders in the peninsula will also continue to receive the Imbalance Cost Pass-Through (ICPT) rebate amounting to two sen per kilowatt hour until the end of the year.
The discount will be reflected in the account holders’ electricity bill starting from July 15, while for account holders that receive their bill within July 1 until 14, the discount will be reflected in August.
The electricity service provider in the statement also said that it will continue to ensure that the execution of the assistance will be implemented smoothly.
TNB also said that it will continue to serve the rakyat throughout Phase One of the National Recovery Plan through several efforts with the government.
This includes no electricity supply cuts for all account holders, postponement of electricity supply cuts to domestic consumers who have bill arrears not exceeding six months until 30 Sept, and easy pay plans will be offered to domestic account holders until Dec 31.
The electricity discount initiatives by TNB were made following the Prime Minister’s announcement on June 28.
