JDT concede three penalties in wild ACL loss to Pohang

KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) were thrashed 4-1 by Pohang Steelers with the South Korean side scoring three of their goals from penalty attempts in Monday’s Asian Champions League (ACL) Group G match in Bangkok.

JDT took the lead through Leandro Velazquez in the 17th minute but the Argentinian turned villain when he conceded a penalty eight minutes later.

Ukrainian forward Boris Tashti stepped up and scored for Pohang.

The Koreans earned a second penalty in the 35th minute when JDT’s Mauricio Nascimento brought down Mario Kvesic inside the JDT box.

Pohang captain Kang Sang Woo netted from his second penalty attempt after Australian referee Shaun Evans ordered a retake.

Substitute Kwon Gi Pyo added a third in the 82nd minute when he flicked the ball over goalkeeper Farizal Marlias.

In the first minute of stoppage time, Pohang earned a third penalty. It was easily converted by Lim Sang Hyub.

With the win, Pohang move up one rung to second with six points while JDT are third on three.
