Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM) president Dr Kuljit Singh said the capacity as at June 21 was 90,000 jabs a day but the number would increase over the next few weeks.

He added that some 100 private hospitals and 700 general practitioners nationwide have participated in the national Covid-19 immunisation programme so far, according to ProtectHealth Corporation Sdn Bhd.

Private hospitals started administering vaccines to recipients on June 7, having been roped in by the government to boost the rollout of the immunisation programme.

“Most private hospitals have their own vaccination centres completely operated by their own nurses, doctors and administrative staff.

“There has been a huge response from the public in receiving their vaccinations at private hospitals in the second phase as there are elements of comfort and ease but still based on appointments determined in MySejahtera,” Kuljit said in a statement today.

He added that private hospitals had mobilised hundreds of personnel to various mega vaccination centres, while more would be deployed in other states to boost the vaccination rate.

“This would be the best way forward to help the government and public as there is no immediate indication that private hospitals would be allowed to purchase the vaccines.”

National Covid-19 immunisation programme coordinating minister Khairy Jamaluddin had said previously that private general practitioners were projected to administer 145,000 vaccine doses a day by July.-FMT
