Another Malaysian has reportedly died is police custody, lawyer suspects ‘something amiss’

Klang, 4 June (The Capital Post)- A 36-year-old Malaysian detainee reportedly died while in police custody at the South Klang district police headquarters on Thursday, 3 June.

According to lawyer Manoharan Malayalam, the man, identified as Umar FaruqAbdullah@Hemanathan, 36, was picked up from his home after 5 police broke into his house Kuala Selangor on Wednesday afternoon, 2 June.

Manoharan further stated that at 10am 3rd June, Umar Faruq’s wife, Humairah Abdullah@Kannagi, 25, received a call from an officer, asking her to bring food for her husband as he had not eaten anything.

Upon reaching the police station and after a long wait she was informed at 3.30 p.m. that her husband have passed away.

Manoharan further stated that, he arrived to the police station after he was contacted by Humairah for legal advice.

There, he was informed that Umar Faruq has died under police custody while trying to escape.

“He was under remand for four days, which was obtained before a Klang Magistrate today,”.

“Apparently, Humairah was informed that her husband fell to his death” he stated.

The lawyer said that he suspects something is “not right here”

He also stated that, he will hold the police responsible and accountable for Umar Faruq’s death and going to file a suit against the police and the government of Malaysia for causing the death of Umar Faruq.

This is 4th custodial death in 2 months.- The Capital Post
