KUALA LUMPUR: Five men have been arrested following the circulation of a video on social media which showed a funeral procession involving a hearse bearing the logo of a secret society.
Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Omar said the deceased was a 28-year-old man who died in a road accident on March 14.
“The hearse had flower garlands and a logo of the ‘36’ secret society, ” he said in a statement yesterday.
Police also found a 14-second video of a man lighting fire crackers in the middle of the road along Jalan Tun Sambanthan.
“Following investigations, we arrested five men aged between 18 and 26, ” said ACP Anuar.
“One of the suspects has a prior record for committing mischief and thereby causing damage.
“Our investigations revealed the suspects were childhood friends with the deceased and he had told them to light firecrackers if he died.”
He said police had received two reports over the incident on Tuesday.
“A police officer had received the 36-second video and lodged a report, ” he said.
The second report was lodged by another police officer over a 58-second video of the same funeral procession.
ACP Anuar said the video was believed to be recorded at a condominium in Pantai Dalam.
Police also seized a Toyota Vellfire, Toyota Camry, Honda Civic, a Yamaha motorcycle, a flower garland and a bouquet of flowers arranged to form “36”.-The Star
