Negri Sembilan police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop said the suspects, who were believed to have been involved in drug distribution activities in Port Dickson and in the southern region, were caught after three months of surveillance.

He said police first detained a male suspect along the Sua Betong-Air Kuning Linggi stretch on Feb 28 and seized some syabu from him.

The suspect, who was also high on drugs, was found to have a criminal record with 18 previous offences.

“In a follow-up raid at a resort in Port Dickson, we detained two other suspects including a Vietnamese female and seized 23.2kg of syabu and smaller quantities of ketamine, Erimin 5 and ecstasy pills.

“Both the suspects also tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said, adding that police had also seized a fake pistol from their room.

The male suspect also had a criminal record, with 18 previous offences.

Police then arrested three more suspects in Alor Gajah and seized some drugs from the duo.

DCP Mohamad said all the male suspects, aged between 35 and 55, were from Melaka.

The female suspect is apparently the girlfriend of one of the suspects and had valid travel documents.

They have been remanded until March 7 and are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which carries the death penalty upon conviction.- The Star
