No curfew or a military coup during emergency, says Muhyiddin

PETALING JAYA, 12 Jan 2021 (The Capital Post)- Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin says no curfew will be imposed throughout the state of emergency, adding that the federal and state governments will function as usual.

Muhyiddin also said this was not a military coup.

Earlier today through a media statement, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, declared a state of emergency to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Following a meeting with Muhyiddin at palace yesterday evening, The Palace said the King consented for the emergency to last until Aug 1 or an earlier date if Covid-19 cases are stabalized and reduced.

In the televised announcement of the emergency, PM Muhyiddin also added that there will be no parliamentary or state assembly meeting until a later date set by the King, while the general election, state election and by-elections also cannot be held during the emergency.

An independent task force will advice on the proceeding for general election after it feels safe to conduct the election nationwide.

Bursa Malaysia and Security commission will play their role as facilitator role, stated by Muhyiddin.

All the economic activities will be carried out as usual and the country is open for business.

PM Muhyiddin also calls on the people of the nation to remain calm and place their trust in the government to effectively contain COVID-19.
