Early yesterday, Pahang only recorded 44 victims at one relief centre; followed by 5,904 people last night, and 9,176 evacuees this morning.

It is learnt that rain has abated in most districts, but the river water has yet to recede, forcing most victims to remain at the relief centres.

Meanwhile, the Kuantan-Segamat road, which was temporarily closed to all vehicles following landslides at Km63 and Km73 in Pekan on Jan 1, is expected to be reopened later today.

On Saturday, Pekan Public Works Department, in a statement, said the stretch will be opened to vehicles on Monday evening once all the necessary repair works are completed.- NST
