KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is investigating a video that alters the lyrics of the Indonesian national, which the republic has deemed as a provocative act.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said the CID’s Special Investigation Unit and the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) were investigating the case.
“We are investigating under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233(1) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“Stern action will be taken against the culprits based on existing laws,” he said on Monday (Dec 28).
The Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta had strongly condemned the video that it deems a provocative act, which could affect ties between Malaysia and Indonesia.
In a statement released Sunday night (Dec 27), the embassy confirmed that Malaysian authorities were investigating the video, which is said to have been uploaded by a Malaysian.
The video, uploaded two weeks ago in the comment section of the My Asean YouTube page, features the Indonesian national anthem with altered lyrics that insult the republic. – THE STAR
