KUALA TERENGGANU, Nov 27 — There is not much improvement in the flood situation in Terengganu as at 8 am today, with a slight increase in the number of evacuees to 361 people (90 families), from 357 people (89 families) at 8 pm yesterday.
Head of the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, Lieutenant Colonel (PA) Che Adam A Rahman said the number of flood relief centres still in operation remained at 12, with six in Kuala Nerus, four in Dungun and one each in Marang and Kuala Terengganu.
He said in Kuala Nerus, the number of evacuees increased slightly to 224 people ( 56 families) today, from 220 people (55 families) last night.
There is no change in the number of flood victims in Dungun, Marang and Kuala Terengganu, he told reporters today.
He said there are 81 evacuees (19 families) at four relief centres in Dungun, Kuala Terengganu, with 30 people from eight families at a relief centre, while in Marang, 26 people from seven families at one relief centre.
On the weather, Che Adam said it was reported fine in Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus juga semakin baik pagi ini.
“In Hulu Terengganu, heavy rain is reported since early morning, while in Hulu Kemaman and Hulu Dungun, the water level in the rivers there is reported to be rising and the possibility of evacuation by residents in the low lying areas, he added.
On the water level in other rivers, based on the data by the Drainage and Irrigation Department, the reading at two rivers in Terengganu, namely Sungai Chalok in Setiu and Sungai Dungun in Kampung Pasir Raja, showed it had exceeded the danger level at 8 am today.
Two other rivers in Setiu, Sungai Nerus in Kampung Langkap and Sungai Setiu in Kampung Besut, the water has risen to above the warning level. – BERNAMA
