The Sarawak disaster relief management committee said this was in light of the surge in imported Covid-19 positive infections in the state.

The committee said that border points with Sabah at Merapok and Sidumin (northern Sarawak) are the main focus.

“Border reinforcements are being arranged as security needs to be increased considerably along our borders with Sabah and Kalimantan.

“The border enforcement units are being beefed up, not just at immigration entry points but also to plug hidden routes and entry points.

“From Sept 26 to Oct 14,52 positive Covid-19 cases were recorded in Sarawak.

“Out of these, 24 cases have a history of travel to Sabah,” the committee said.

Sarawak’s northernmost Lawas district has two immigration checkpoints into Sabah.

At the border with Kalimantan, Sarawak’s main entry points are Bakelalan, Bario (northern Sarawak), Tebedu and Serikin (southern Sarawak).

Sarawak has recorded 19 deaths from Covid-19 and 755 positive infections so far. -The Star
