Estimate Reading Time: 2 minutes

KUALA LUMPUR: Tempers are flaring online as the public took to social media to voice frustration over the unannounced water cuts in part of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur began on Thursday (Sept 3).
Many expected supply would resume in the morning, but were disappointed to see the taps were still dry.
Facebook user Mohd Saleh Johari asked why water disruptions kept happening.

“The same issue happens almost two to three times a year. Why can’t there be a permanent solution?” he said.

Muhammad Khairul Akmal urged action from the Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) on polluters.”Selangor is a developed state but the same thing happens every year. Please think of a way to resolve this problem,” he said.

Joining the chorus of complaints was Priyah Narayansamy, who asked why there was no backup plan in the event of a pollution.”Obviously, the enforcement and action have had no effect since the issue keeps happening. There should be follow-ups on past offenders,” she said.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Rashid said more water tankers should be mobilised.”There are many housing areas in Selangor, and people are now having to compete over limited water supplies,” he said.

Meanwhile, William Ong urged Air Selangor to lodge a police report on the matter.”Let the police investigate and arrest the parties responsible for the pollution,” he said.

Fadliana Azhar concurred, adding that the companies responsible should be closed down.”Although they contribute to the country’s economy, they are polluting the country. A more severe penalty is needed,” she said.

In a statement on Friday (Sept 4), Air Selangor said the Sungai Selangor Water Treatment Plants Phase 1,2 and 3 and the Rantau Panjang Water Treatment Plant were still unoperational as of 6.30am.

This was after odour pollution was detected at the uptake around 9am on Thursday. Air Selangor said the pollution was at one tonne at press time.

It said water tankers would continue to be mobilised.
Check on the Air Selangor app revealed that the estimated completion time has yet to be confirmed. -The Star.
