847 new hospital admissions, ICUs at 33% capacity

PETALING JAYA: There were 847 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 472 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 375 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 160 , followed by Johor (99) and Perak (84).

A total of 818 patients were discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 33% of their total capacity of 882 beds.

ICU beds in only two regions have exceeded 50% capacity – Selangor (55%) and Johor (52%).

A total of 185 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 21% of their maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds has exceeded 50% capacity in Putrajaya
(87%), Selangor (68%), Kuala Lumpur (53%) and Melaka (51%).

In terms of the total capacity of beds for both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients at public hospitals, the use of non-critical beds was at 62% while 57% of ICUs were in use.

Two new clusters were also reported yesterday.
