7th edition of ‘Flavours of Mexico’ in Malaysia goes digital

KUALA LUMPUR: The seventh edition of Flavours of Mexico is being held online this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, with a special segment on the Mexican cuisine and its similarities with Malaysian food.

The Embassy of Mexico in Malaysia, in a statement, said the week-long event ending on Sunday (Nov 29) showcase, among others, Malaysia’s celebrity cook Chef Wan and wife of the Mexican ambassador to Malaysia Madam Sonia Félix demonstrating how to cook Nasi Tomato Ayam, and Tamales, (Spicy Chicken and Cheese), respectively.

“Dishes of the Flavours of Mexico can be found at several restaurants in Malaysia such as Fresca, Chica Bonita, La Boca, and Holy Guacamole.

“They (visitors) have to show the e-vouchers which the Embassy of Mexico will be posting on its social media platform to get a 10 per cent  discount for some dishes and drinks,” said the embassy in a statement sent via WhatsApp to Bernama.

Besides experiencing different menus prepared by distinguished Mexican chefs in several hotels and restaurants in Malaysia, Flavours of Mexico also offer cooking lessons to Malaysians so that they can prepare and replicate the dishes at their home.

It added that over the past six years, Flavours of Mexico in Malaysia has become a successful festival to enjoy the vast Mexican cuisine, comprising the cooking traditions and techniques of both the ancient and the modern that identifies the unique flavours of the Mexican gastronomy in the world.

“Traditional Mexican cuisine has a prominent place at the international level, where the nation’s cuisine was declared as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO,” it said.
