564 new hospital admissions, ICUs at 25% capacity

PETALING JAYA: There were 564 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 343 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 221 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 136, followed by Johor (77) and Perak (75).

A total of 578 patients were also discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 25% of their total capacity of 876 beds.

Only Selangor (55%) has exceeded 50% ICU bed capacity.

A total of 122 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 14% of their maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds has exceeded 50% capacity in Putrajaya (61%) and Selangor (51%).

In terms of the total capacity for both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients at public hospitals, non-critical beds were at 63% capacity while 56% of ICUs were in use.

No new clusters were reported yesterday.
