PETALING JAYA: Four directors of a company will be charged in the Selayang Sessions Court today over the pollution of Sungai Kundang in Rawang, Selangor.

In a statement, Selangor CID chief Fadzil Ahmat said the four individuals, comprising three men and one woman, will be charged under Section 25(1) of the Environmental Quality Act 1974.
If convicted, they can be fined a maximum of RM100,000 or imprisoned for up to five years or both.
They will also be charged under Section 55E of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for hiring foreign workers without legal permits, while eight Myanmar men will be charged for not possessing legal work permits.

“This is the third case charged by the Selangor CID since September. Investigations and charges will continue to ensure that those disobeying the law will be brought to justice,” Fadzil said.
On Oct 22, the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) detected odour pollution in Sungai Kundang, a river basin of Sungai Selangor and Sungai Langat, with early action preventing fresh water disruptions in the Klang Valley.
A preliminary investigation by LUAS found that the pollution was caused by a biodiesel substance, suspected to be from the Kundang Jaya industrial area. – FMT
