2,250 PISMP holders pass ESC interviews – deputy minister

KUALA LUMPUR- A total of 2,250 Bachelor’s degree in Teaching Programme (PISMP) holders from Teachers’ Education Institutes (IPGs) have passed the Education Service Commission’s (ESC) interviews and subsequently placed at schools as of Nov 4 this year.

Deputy Minister of Education Teo Nie Ching said for public universities’ graduates, 5,594 candidates had attended the interviews in September to October this year to fill the vacancy of various options at the Ministry of Education (MoE).

She said the results expected to be known this month and appointments would be made beginning January.

“The recruitment of teachers is based on the number of vacancies and the choice of subject options in schools under MoE. Teacher recruitment is carried out by the ESC as the appointment authority.

“Graduates from public universities who meet the requirements will be called for interviews by ESC based on the number of vacancies and choice of subject options,” she said at an oral question-and-answer session at the Dewan Negara today.

She said this in her reply to a question from Senator Suresh Singh Rashpal Singh, who wanted to know the number of teaching graduates yet to receive placement at schools as of November this year.- BERNAMA
