PETALING JAYA: A total of 21,408 contract medical officers and 697 contract dental officers have been given a promotion, the health ministry announced today.
Health secretary-general Mohd Shafiq Abdullah said the medical officers will be promoted from Grade UD41 to UD43 while the dental officers will be promoted from Grade UG41 to UG44, similar to their permanent counterparts.
It was previously reported that the salary difference between contract and permanent workers was about RM8,000 annually, although they have been performing the same tasks.
Shafiq said the finance ministry and Public Services Commission (PSC) approved the funds for the promotion yesterday.
He said the officers will be notified of their promotion offer through email.
“With this grade adjustment, it is hoped that the officers will be all the more motivated and committed in carrying out their duties,” he said in a statement.
Shafiq also announced that the PSC and finance ministry had approved extending the contracts of 585 medical officers, 1,071 dental officers and 1,966 pharmacy officers. They will also be notified of their offer through email.- FMT
