KUALA LUMPUR: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd will give RM1,000 in compensation to all 213 victims in the LRT train collision last night, its chairman, Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, said.
He said 64 passengers were still hospitalised, with six in critical condition and three requiring ventilators.
Tajuddin also told a press conference today that Prasarana will cover the medical costs of every victim until they are discharged.
He said he was saddened by what happened and apologised to the public, adding that investigations were under way.
While investigations into the incident would only be completed in two weeks’ time, he said: “This is a tragedy and accident beyond our control.
“We took all the necessary steps to make sure our services are safe. You can’t say our service isn’t safe. This is the first (incident of its kind). We are doing our best to maintain the safety levels,” he said.
The company will be offering three types of payments to victims, namely the RM1,000 disbursement, hospital fees and compensation for those who face temporary loss of income.
He added that the trains were also complying with the 50% capacity since yesterday, adding that it could usually ferry up to around 800 passengers at full capacity.-FMT
