ALOR STAR: A total 162 flood victims in Kuala Muda were evacuated to three flood relief centres following several hours of heavy downpour yesterday evening.
State Civil Defence Force disaster operations chief Saifuddin Abdullah said the victims from 39 families, were relocated to relief centres in Kampung Bukit Belah, Taman Kenari and Kampung Jerung in Sungai Petani.
Saifuddin said the victims were evacuated to the flood relief centres between midnight and early this morning.
“As of 6am today, there were 162 evacuees from 39 families at the three relief centres.
“From the total, 131 evacuees from 25 families were seeking shelter at the Masjid Al-Huda relief centre, 18 at the Kampung Bukit Belah relief centre and another 13 victims have been temporarily relocated to the Taman Kenari relief centre,” he said.
As at 10am, all three relief centres were still in operation.-NST
