PETALING JAYA: There were 1,521 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.
Of this, 887 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 634 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.
Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 219, followed by Johor (175) and Perak (168).
A total of 1,542 patients were also discharged yesterday.
In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 44% of their total capacity of 876 beds.
ICU beds in six regions have exceeded 50% capacity, namely Kuala Lumpur (77%), Kelantan (75%), Johor (66%), Selangor (62%), Melaka (59%) and Penang (51%).
A total of 215 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 25% of their maximum capacity.
The use of normal Covid-19 beds has exceeded 50% capacity in Putrajaya (107%), Selangor (103%), Kuala Lumpur (90%), Perak (86%), Melaka (84%), Sarawak (81%), Perlis (76%), Terengganu (73%), Kelantan (71%), Johor (58%), Penang (56%) and Pahang (55%).
In terms of the total capacity for both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients at public hospitals, non-critical beds were at 68% while 59% of ICUs were in use.
Two new clusters were also reported yesterday.
