State police chief Datuk Sahabudin Abd Manan said police would deploy maximum checks during this Hari Raya to prevent the people from taking advantage of interstate travels and the leave of all policemen had been frozen.

“With the rising Covid-19 cases, we have to keep the situation in check to keep the situation at bay. The strict checks is to prevent outsiders from bringing to virus into the state,” he told the New Straits Times today.

Muslims in the country are expected to celebrate Hari Raya this May 13 and 14.

For now, Penang remains under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

Sahabudin said state police would not go house-to-house to check on the compliance of the standard operating procedure (SOP) during the coming festivity.

“Instead, the district police chiefs will decide where to go and what to check based on information received,” he added.

Yesterday, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that Hari Raya visiting would only be allowed on the first day of Aidilfitri in areas under the Movement Control Order (MCO).

He, however, said only 15 family members would be allowed at a time, depending on the size of the home, in order to allow for physical distancing.

He had also said that Raya visiting in areas under the Conditional and Recovery MCO could be done during the first three days of Aidilfitri, with a maximum of 20 and 25 visitors at a time, respectively.

Those living in localities placed under the Enhanced MCO would not be allowed to receive guests.

Interstate travel ban still remains and no Aidilfitri open houses would be allowed nationwide.

Selangor is the latest state to be placed under the MCO, affecting six districts namely Hulu Langat, Petaling, Gombak, Klang, Kuala Langat and Sepang, from tomorrow until May 17.-NST
